At last, something funky from Microsoft

I know – you put the words ‘funky’ and ‘Microsoft’ together and just wait for someone to yell ‘that’s an Oxymoron’, but this time it’s different.

A client just introduced me to Microsoft Surface and I’m blown away, but if I’d only read the MS press release I’d have been distinctly underwhelmed. This is one of those products where you only get the Eureka moment when you see it in action – mere words are not enough to fire up your imagination about what this thing can do, so I’m not going to try to describe it here. Please just go and have a look.

I just so want to have a go on this thing! It sort of reminds me of that Tom Cruise movie where he moves stuff around on a virtual screen with his hands, but this one looks much more fun and it can even talk to your cell phone and your iPod … Yikes! I think my inner teenager is in danger of getting loose.

Apparently Sheraton Hotels are going to be among the early adopters, so I might just have to toddle along there and get jiggy with Surface.

So, all you Microsoft-bashers out there, what do you have to say about Surface? Don’t get me wrong – I’m no MS evangelist; in fact, I’m more of an Adobe-head in a lot of ways, but this time I think Bill’s boys take the biscuit. Discuss.
